Biot Jar
Charming little antique French BIOT earthenware storage jar, pre 1900..
A unique piece of handmade ceramic craftmanship, produced in the cosy southern French city of Biot, located between Nice and Cannes. Biot has for centuries had a tradition of producing pottery jars and ceramics, which are characterized by their characteristic charming yellowish glaze.
Biot pots are glazed inside and around the outer brim, to prevent insects from crawling up over the edge. The jars were typically used for olive oil and exported around the entire Mediterranean.
A beautiful piece for outdoors in the garden or conservatory or in the home, as it is an eye catching piece and gives atmosphere for any decor.
